Super students techniques

super students:
The world always salutes the rising sun. By standing first in your class, you also can have this respect and acceptance everywhere. And it is simple to do well in your class. You don’t need to be a genius to do well, nor do you need to study in the best schools in town. All you need is to learn some simple techniques. Thousands of
students have already proved this to be right.

10 Ways to Improve Concentration in Your Studies:

Know Why You are Studying
Concentration always follows interest. Most of us study because we have to and feel no interest in our studies. But once you realize that studying well will help you get good grades, gain recognition, and make it much easier for you to succeed in life, you will feel interest in your studies. So every day before you sit down to study think of what you are going to study and why. This will help you have interest in your studies.

Practice the Two- minute Concentration Exercise
This simple technique will help you improve your concentration. Put a clock with a second hand in front of you. Keep your eyes on the second hand for two minutes. Count the number of times your mind has wandered away from the clock in these two minutes. In the beginning, this number might be quite high. Your mind might wander away 25 times or more. But if you practice regularly, a time will come when your mind won’t wander a single time in the two minutes. Because every time it wanders you are bringing it back to the desired object. So keeping your attention on one thing will become a habit.

Do This Before You Start Studying
Before you start studying, do the following exercise to zero-in your attention on your studies.
Sit comfortably in your chair so that you don’t need to move for a while. Take a pencil or pen. Now take a long breath and tell yourself, “I am going to draw a spiral with my pen/pencil. As soon as I reach the center of the spiral my mind will be free from all extraneous thoughts. I am now going to study … (mention what you are going to study). Whatever I study will be totally engrained in my mind. I will be able to recall it completely and express it effectively both orally and in writing whenever I want to.” Now start drawing a spiral like the one above. Draw the lines in a way that they don’t touch each other. As soon as the pen or pencil reaches the center, you will feel that your mind has detached from all extraneous thoughts and is focused on your object of study. If you practice regularly in this way, you will be able to concentrate on your studies in a second.

Plan Your Study
• Before you sit down to study, know exactly what you are going to study, how much and in what order. This will minimize the possibility of worrying about other assignments when you are working on a particular one.
• Keep some diversity in the subjects.
• Keep time for short breaks in between. For example, you may take five-minute breaks after every 50 minutes of study. But be careful not to start anything during these breaks, such as watching TV or checking email, which may take two hours instead of five minutes.
• Everyone has his own biorhythm. Notice at what times during the day - in the morning, afternoon or night - you are most alert and creative. For most students that might be early morning. For others it might be late at night. Keep the most difficult or monotonous subjects for those times. It will be easier to concentrate, and your studies will gain new speed.

Have the Correct Posture
Your body posture actually has some influence on your level of concentration. Sit on a chair with your back straight. Make sure your feet touch the floor. Try not to move too much. Keep a distance of at least two feet between your eyes and your study material.

Create a Positive Learning Environment
• Put your desk against the wall so that you face a wall when you study to decrease distractions.
• Put all pictures, mementos, and decorations on the other side of the room so that they don't distract you from your work.
• Don't use your desk for anything but studying; by the same token, don't use your bed for studying - establishing habits will make concentration easier.
• Only use your computer for assignments that you are working on. If your computer has to be on, but you don't need the internet, unplug the connector and/or disable your wireless.
• Turn off the ringer on your phone(s) and turn down the volume on the answering machine.
• Establish times with your roommates for studying to ensure peace and quiet.
• Turn off the television or stereo - only listen to light, familiar music if you need background noise.
• Study in a well-lit area.
• If people are too loud for you to concentrate, try asking them to be quieter.
• Do not start any incomplete work just before you study. Do not let the thought of any incomplete work distract you. If necessary, make a to-do list. But do not delay your study session.

Condition Yourself
Find spaces where you can be the most focused and productive. Study in the same place and at the same time everyday. Do not use your study table for any other purpose. Your body and mind will become conditioned to studying. You will find it easy to concentrate in that place and time.

Do Not Waste Time Staring at the Book When You Cannot Concentrate
If your mind begins to wander in the middle of your studies, do not keep staring at the book. Instead, stand up, but don’t leave the room. If you practice this several times, you will find that your mind is not wandering as much.

Reward Yourself for Fulfilling Your Target
If you were able to finish studying everything you wanted, reward yourself , even if in a small way.
Meditate
The best way to progress your concentration is to meditate. Meditation frees our mind from regrets about the past and worries about the future and brings it absolutely to the present.

10 Ways to Think Like a Good Student :

The primary difference between a good student and a bad student is in how they THINK. If you want to do well, you need to say goodbye to your negative beliefs and nurture positive ones. Here are a few examples of the kind of thinking that needs to be changed.
• Instead of thinking 'I got poor grades. I am worthless' think 'Failure is the pillar of success.'.
• Instead of thinking 'You need to be a genius to do well in exams. I’m not a genius, I’m immediately an average student !', think 'The tortoise is better than the rabbit'.
• Instead of thinking 'I can't concentrate in my studies! I can't remember anything I read! How will I ever do well?' think of how you can improve your concentration.
• Instead of thinking 'Papa says I’m an idiot. He’s probably right.' have confidence in yourself.
• Instead of thinking 'My teacher says I’m a loafer. He's right. I AM a slacker', think of how you can become more active..
• Instead of thinking 'Why should I work so hard for good result? What will I get in return?' think of all the ways doing well in your studies will help you. Read 'Do You Really Know Why You Need to Do Well' on the Super Students homepage.
• Instead of thinking 'I couldn’t get admission in engineering school/medical school/... university. I’m such a loser' think 'If I can be first in my subject, nobody will think I am a loser'.
• Instead of thiking 'It’s impossible to get an A or first class in this subject', think 'I will be the first to get an A in this subject'.
• Instead of thinking 'I have so many problems and obstacles. How can I ever do well? ' know that obstacles are necessary for development and think how of how you can turn your problems into opportunitites..
• Instead of thinking 'I studied so hard but still couldn’t do well. I have got such bad luck!' get out why you didn't do well.

How to Get Rid of Exam thing about:

To most of us exams are bad than Chinese torture. Believe it or not there are people out there who can't wait to take an exam and prove themselves. If this is unbelievable, think of what you know you are good at and how you feel when you have a chance to express that skill. For example, you know you can run faster than the wind and tomorrow is the school sports competition. Or you have a beautiful dress and tomorrow you get to wear it. Imagine the pleasure and anticipation you will feel. For a lot of people, exams are like that. And you can feel that way too.

Here are the reasons we generally don't feel that way :

• The number one reason we are nervous of exams is because we know we are not prepared. If this is the case with you, unfortunately, there is no magic formula that can make exams tasty for you. Read the other articles in this section, and like top students, develop the habit of starting early. Decide on a monchhobi about the your result from day one and imagine it everyday. You will be calm on exam day.
• Many of us underestimate ourselves or our preparation. Most of us are better prepared than we think. Autosuggestions and affirmationscan help you feel more confident about yourself and your preparation. You can find some autosuggestions for students here.
• Some of your friends may be on the edge of a nervous breakdown because of the coming exam. Others may be saying, "Oh I completed my preparation for this paper three months ago and I have reviewed everything 10 times!". Both can make you nervous. But don't let them. If you find you are being influenced by them, simply avoid them.
• For some of us, even the possibility of not doing well in the exam is unthinkable. Subconsciously, we may be nurturing unreasonable beliefs such as 'If I don't do well in this exam I am a failure as a person', or ' If I don't do well in this exam my parents won't love me any more.' Thinking not doing well is absolutely unacceptable makes us exam phobic. If you think you have any such unreasonable belief deep down, you can change them by doing the negative feelings meditation. Exams are important but they are not everything. So take it easy.

How to Make a Routine and Actually Follow It!
You know in order to be a super student you need to learn how to start control over your time. And it is not very difficult. All you need is to be aware of how you spend your time and learn to live according to a timetable.
Usually, we spend our time doing four types of things:
1. vital, such as answering a phone call, opening a door or dealing with some other obvious situation
2. Important, such as preparing for classes or exams, making notes, exercise, meditation
3. Urgent and Important, such as studying before the exam, helping in house work, finishing assingments before a deadline, etc.
4. Neither Urgent nor Important, such as watching a TV show, playing games on the computer, chatting on the cell phone, just hanging out, or over sleeping
An regular student spends most of his time on number 3 and 4. But as a super student, you should spend most of your valuable time on number 2 and 3. You should be careful that number 1 does not take up too much time and try to avoid number 4 as much as possible.
Let’s see how you can make a timetable.
1. Exams, assignments and news
The first step in making a schedule is to make a list of important tasks such as your exam schedule, assignments, details etc. and stick it on your desk, so that you see it as soon as you enter the room. Then make another copy of the list and carry it with you in your school bag, wallet or purse.
2. Make a weekly timetable
Make a list of the tasks you will have to repeat every week and make several photocopies of the list. We will use a copy of the list every week.
3. Daily timetable
Break your weekly schedule into daily one. In this way you will be able to bring your whole life under a routine. Make the schedule for the next day before you go to bed at night. Your timetable might look something life this:
Date : --------------------
Saturday
Morning 5.30 – 6.00 Waking up, freshening up
Morning 6.00 – 6.30 Exercise
Morning 6.30 – 7.00 Meditation
Morning 7.00 – 7.15 Breakfast
Morning 7.15 – 7.30 Getting ready for college
Morning 7.30 – 8.00 Going to college
Morning 8.00 – 1.00 College
Afternoon 1.00 – 3.00 Coming home, taking a shower, lunch and rest
Afternoon 3.00 - 4.30 Private Tuition in math
Afternoon 4.30 -6.00 Coming home,spending time with family,play.
Evening 6.00 – 9.30 Studying
Night 09.30 – 10.45 Dinner,watching tv
Night 10.45 – 11.00 Next day routine plan.
Night 11.00 - 11.30 Meditation
Night 11.30 - 05.30 Sleep
Keep in mind
Be realistic. Don’t make a timetable you will not be able to follow. It may take some time to understand what is realistic and what is not. But after some time you will get a grasp of it. You will enjoy the pleasure of disciplined life.
Start the day in a planned way. Then there will be a nice rhythm to the rest of the day.
Find out at what time of day or night you feel most active and energetic. Leave the most challenging, tiresome, or boring tasks for those times.
Keep your routine eventful. Instead of studying the same topic for hours and hours at a stretch keep some variety in the topics of study. You will find it easier to concentrate in your studies.
Rememer it is not how long but how much you are studying within your planned time that matters.
Don’t be disappointed if you cannot follow the schedule. Try to come back to the schedule for the remaining hours of the day. Even if you can follow only 80% of your timetable, you will be ahead of most students.
